CrossFit West Nashville was a vision in my head long ago, but it took the collective support of many people to make it happen. I am proud to be able to serve the West Nashville area of Bellevue, Grassland, Fairview, West Meade, and Dickson. The story begins more than a decade ago, when I was serving as a Helicopter Rescue Swimmer in the US Navy. There I was introduced to the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of pushing your limits as a team. The support, camaraderie and competition served me in ways I never knew existed. I became confident, mentally acute, and physically ready for anything. It changed a spoiled 21 year old young man into a leader and taught me to never give up no matter what life sends my way.
Fast forward to 2005. I left the service to pursue my education in physical/occupational therapy. I became a personal trainer to pay my bills and volunteered at a local gym. I met my wife and stepson and decided that I would dedicate my life to helping others as a personal trainer. I first encountered CrossFit in 2006. I tried some of the workouts and thought it was the most ridiculous thing I had ever tried. I did not understand it and quickly dismissed CrossFit. In 2011, I discovered that someone that I respected and admired ran a CrossFit affiliate. This caused me to take a second look at it and this time actually read the training guide and watched the videos. I learned that it used the same movements that I was already using with my clients. The thing that really sold me though, was learning about the ability to scale the workouts. The main website of www.crossfit.com shows these really fit people doing these extreme workouts, but when I learned how to scale the workouts to the appropriate fitness level of any participant, it all started making sense. I tried the CrossFit training and Paleo nutrition lifestyle for three months and experienced the best results I have ever seen.
CrossFit blends my personal training education with the experience I gained from the military into the perfect setting for health and fitness. It allows people from all walks of life to join together in support and push the boundaries that they have self-imposed upon themselves. Nothing provides better results to date, and I believe that everyone should give it a try.

Training History: My journey to fitness began in January 2005 when I was over 215 lbs. After years of depression, lack of confidence, and a poor self image I decided to make a change. I began to learn about better nutrition and began working out. After 8 months of training, I had lost 60 lbs and for the first time began to see confidence in myself in a way I had never experience and developed a true passion for health and wellness accruing many certifications in a variety of disciplines along the way. I have been a certified trainer since 2010 working with every single type of client with a variety of abilities or limitations. My training principles lie in the fundamental belief that in order to perform well and see success you must first MOVE BETTER then seek ways to challenge your fitness that get an individual outside his or her comfort zone. My personal goal is to do everything in my power to help you be successful in every facet of your life you want to grow. Your results matter. If our clients are not getting them, then we are not serving our clients.
What I Love About CFWN: In your life, you could search places far and wide and never find a place as special as CFWN because it is rare that you find a “gym” that has the level of community of our box. All are welcome and all are united by a common goal to be better than what they currently are. It is a place where you will always find support from coaches and member AND without judgment. Also, coaches at CFWN actually coach allowing each and every one of us to get better daily. Community. Support. Expertise. What more could you ask for?
Motto: “Believe in the power you build from within; You can achieve anything with it…”

I came to the fitness profession later in life. I have “worked out” all my adult life, trying everything from Jazzercise, Tae-Bo, spin & muscle pump classes. It wasn’t until I encountered Crossfit, that I felt I had found the fitness solution for me! While at first, I thought my trainer was punishing me with those grueling workouts, I soon developed a hunger for it. Not only was I able to do a kipping pull-up and run a 5k (something I never dreamed I would be able to do), my body was looking different (in a good way). At age 41, I felt, physically, the best I had ever felt. That is when I decided, this is what I want to do! I want to help other people realize fitness dreams that they never felt were possible. I want my friends to feel physically strong and lead healthy lifestyles. In September of 2012, I became level one Crossfit certified. I immediately began to intern and eventually started coaching at CFWN. I have learned so much and continue to try and improve my knowledge and skills everyday. The best part is that every week, I get to be a part of member’s successes. It truly excites me to see someone go from barely being able to squat to a full on, hip crease below parallel, squat! Or to have someone tell me they have some kind of pain or limitation, but since coming to CFWN, it’s better.
What I love about CFWN:
Everyone is welcome! All ages, athletes, stay at home moms, busy executives…it doesn’t matter! There is a place for you at CFWN and most likely a friend you didn’t even know you had! I love that the coaches all have a genuine interest in seeing each member reach their goals. The coaches are concerned about safety, never asking a member to do something they are not ready to do. Yet, they are there to push members and challenge them like they have never been challenged before. But, best of all, it is a fun place to be!

I have been involved in athletics for as long as I can remember. I started to excel in track and field when my high school track coach saw the potential that I did not see. I remember the countless hours that he spent showing me proper form and technique for each of the six field events in the decathlon, and telling me to “run it again, faster!” The result of his coaching, guidance, and determination was a scholarship to The University of Tennessee where I competed in the decathlon. Since college, I have had a passion for getting others to find the potential in themselves. Nothing is more exciting for me than to see someone do something that they previously thought to be impossible. That is why I love being a coach at CrossFit West Nashville. I get to see people change their lives everyday by accomplishing things in their 30s, 40s, and 50s that they could not do in their 20s, and everyday I get one step closer to filling some pretty big shoes when I get to tell someone to “Do it again, faster!”
